Item listed is a lot of three vintage ceramic ashtrays. These ashtrays depict sprays of dainty floral arrangements. The two square ashtrays with rounded corners do not have any chips. They do have some light staining on the back. The staining might be able to removed with harder scrubbing. I washed all of the ashtrays lightly with "dish soap" as I did not want to disrupt the paint. The longer ashtray is hand painted in Japan (stamp on back) and it has 2 chips on the divots where the cigarettes are meant to sit. The square ashtrays are approximately 3.25" by 3.25". The longer ashtray measures approximately 4" by 3".
These ashtrays would make a great gift for someone who loves dainty/floral/pretty vintage decor. When smoking was "en vogue" (and people didn't worry about the health problems associated with smoking), it was common to see a wide variety of artistic and decorative ashtrays. The design of the ashtray was meant to make a statement about the personality of the smoker. Today's ashtrays (by comparison) are usually fairly plain and utilitarian. I (personally) do not smoke but I think that it is strange that some day in the future people will look at ashtrays and not know what they are!
