Items for sale are two rare collectable bicentennial 1960-1970 era 7-up bottles. They both depict eagles on them however the eagles are different in design. Both bottles are embossed with "7up THE UNCOLA" on the top, The ads depicted in the photos are NOT INCLUDED in this sale however I posted them as a reference to the product. The UNCOLA Campaign sought to promote the idea of the fact that the product is not made from cola nuts, a differentiating angle that resonated with young people at the threshold of the so-called “Me decade”, which described a new attitude of Americans towards individualism. Prior to this, 7up was mainly drank by older individuals who used it as a gastrointestinal remedy. The UNCOLA Campaign was rolled out in 1968 and ran through the 70s in the U.S. with many memorable ads for TV and print. The campaign doubled sales for the product and by 1972, 7 UP ranked as the third largest soda marketer behind Coke and Pepsi. Many of these ads were psychedelic in nature which was appropriate for the trends of the time. In my research of the bottles, I was surprised to find that 7up originally contained Lithium thus the "up" in the name. It is speculated that the 7 refers to the 7 natural ingredients in the soda. These bottles are in great condition and they have been gently cleaned with dish soap. Both bottles come with the original caps. No chipping, cracking or defects noted on either bottle. Each bottle measures 7.5" with a base diameter of 2.5". These bottles would make a great decoration or conversation piece. You could also use them as vases. The green color is beautiful and vibrant.
